Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) was developed by Jon Kabot-Zin in 1979 at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. The course sprung out of Kabot-Zin’s desire to provide support to patients who were not responding to conventional medical treatment. Today, the course is the most widely taught mindfulness program in the country.
The eight-week experiential course incorporates mindfulness meditation, gentle hatha yoga, and mindful inquiry to explore our lives moment by moment with curiosity and without and judgment. You will learn to cultivate life-long tools that will help you develop increased resilience to better meet the challenges of your life.
Nearly four decades of research indicates that the majority of people who develop a mindfulness practice through MBSR training find a greater capacity to cope with life stresses, particularly physical pain, depression, and anxiety. Many find practice a doorway into greater well-being and enthusiasm for meaningful engagement in life.
